  Making Grammar Activities more Communicative and Effective

  The focus will be on 5- and 10-minute activities for B2-C1 levels and their usage in terms of effective grammar teaching including practical demonstrations and discussion of individual games and activities for each stage of a grammar lesson: Modelling, Eliciting and Practicing Grammar.

  Communicative Vocabulary Activities for Advanced Students

  Introduction of activities and games for teaching vocabulary, including innovative ice-breakers and fun fillers as well as activities for either introducing or practicing vocabulary in a conversational mode throughout the whole lesson.

  Task-based conversation classes

  We will take a look at this technique for building a conversation: a series of tasks that remain conversational and communicative throughout, while at the same time building the grammar and vocabulary necessary for the main task. The main task itself usually is often the kind of things we actually do when speaking: deciding, speculating, advising, etc.

  FCE & CAE: Writing seminar 1 – Overview, corrections and feedback

  An overview of the writing test, including the criteria for grading and examples of well-written (pass) test papers. In addition, we will deal with correcting and assessing students primarily at the FCE level; working in pairs and as a group. Finally, we will also calibrate our assessment of one CAE level writing task.

  FCE & CAE: Writing seminar 2– Teaching emails and letters

  Activities to prepare students for the writing paper, focusing on FCE level work for emails and letters, ensuring that the students understand how to manage the content, organization, register and language features necessary for a pass mark. The activities have been chosen to complement those in third writing seminar and some of the activities are adaptable for various papers.

  FCE & CAE: Writing seminar 3 – Teaching essays, reports and reviews

  Activities to prepare students for the writing paper, focusing especially on essays, reports and reviews. We will again focus on modelling the tasks for the students and getting them to notice and analyze the language and structures used, ensuring that the students understand how to manage the content, organization, register and language features. Additionally, we will explore activities for practicing the target language and the task itself.
